IN TOWN:

THEATER.  Ashland's theatrical centerpiece is the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, presenting 11 plays in repertoire in 3 theaters from February through October. Complementing this fare are several other excellent theaters including The Oregon Cabaret Theatre, The Actors Playhouse in nearby Talent and Ashland Community Theater.

Lithia Park:  In the center of town, adjoining the Plaza, is an exquisite park shaded by towering trees.  Ashland Creek meanders through the park and invites wading and daydreaming on its banks.

OUTDOOR RECREATION

Water:  The nearby Rogue and Klamath Rivers provide scenic whitewater thrills for the whole family. You can rent you own raft or inflatable kayak or join one of the area's several outfitters for guided raft trips and fishing.  At nearby Emigrant Lake are sailing and power boating, swimming, and picnicing.  In town there are pools and swimming holes in Lithia, Hunter, and Garfield Parks.

Hiking: The hills and mountains surrounding Ashland have miles of trails that will appeal to most tastes, from an easy stroll to a strenuous hike.  These include the famous Pacific Crest Trail, and the trails up Grizzley Peak and Hobart Bluff from which are visible great vistas of the Rogue Valley.

Golf:  There are several area golf courses including The Eagle Point Golf Course designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr.

Cycling:  Cyclists can take the challenge of the surrounding mountain trails or opt for pleasant backroad trips through the area's orchards and quaint towns. Bicycles may be rented in town.

Winter Sports:  The winter provides a variety of cross country and downhill ski venues including Mount Ashland only half an hour away, and ice skating in Lithia Park's outdoor rink.

National Parks: Ashland is within an easy day's trip of a number of scenic sites and parks in Southern Oregon and Northern California including Crater Lake, Oregon Caves National Monument, Siskiyou National Forest, Lava Beds National Monument, Redwood State and National Parks, Klamath Lakes and Tule Lake National Wildlife Refuges.
